About Us — Conference Publishing Consulting
Conference Publishing Consulting produces the proceedings of scientific
conferences, symposia, workshops, and journals in computer science,
with a focus on programming languages and software engineering.
We are independent from the actual publishers and focus on the service.
We work on behalf of the conference organizers and deliver the results
to the publisher of the event, such as the ACM or the IEEE.
We are not a publisher ourselves: your conference decides what is published,
the ACM or the IEEE remains the publisher of record, and we produce the
proceedings and deliver them.
Our goal is to make the preparation of the proceedings as efficient and as
smooth as possible, both for the conference organizers and for the authors:
the chairs hand over the list of accepted papers, and we take care of
everything from the author kit to the final delivery to the digital library.
What We Do
- We prepare the advance table of contents (list of accepted papers) for your conference web page.
- We prepare the pages with the author instructions and send the author-kit e-mails to
all authors of accepted papers, and we run the submission site for the camera-ready
versions, including reminders after the deadline has passed.
- We set up the electronic copyright transfer with ACM or IEEE and have the
copyright-transfer instructions sent to the authors.
- We check every paper — technical requirements (such as scalable and embedded fonts)
as well as adherence to the style guide — and work with the authors on the papers
that need corrections.
- We create the front matter: title page, table of contents, and author index,
and we assist with foreword and preface. Where your conference uses ResearchR,
we take the committee lists for the proceedings directly from there, so they cannot diverge.
- We handle the publication of artifacts with the paper, including their identification
by DOI and the validation badges awarded by the artifact evaluation.
- We provide the metadata for your program in
XML format (for example, to feed into ResearchR).
What You Get
The proceedings, the main deliverable of our work, consist of the following:
- Digital-library version: all camera-ready articles with page numbers and
bibliographic information as required by the digital library
(for example, the ACM DL or IEEE Xplore).
- Conference version: all articles prepared for the version of the proceedings
that you distribute at the conference, either as zip file or over the network,
with a hyper-linked structure in HTML for navigating to the individual PDF files.
- Print master: a single PDF document containing all articles, the
table of contents, the author index, and the front matter.
What Sets Us Apart
We are not an upload gate that only tests whether a PDF can be processed.
Every paper is inspected, and a human expert works with the authors until the
result is right. We strive for proceedings that look uniform and professional.
- One team for all publishers. Being independent, we work with ACM
(including TAPS) and IEEE, for conference proceedings as well as for
journal-style volumes (such as PACMPL, PACMSE, and PACMHCI).
You do not need a different vendor when your event changes its publication venue.
- Real style checking. We check page size and margins, embedded and
scalable fonts, style version and document class, the ACM Reference Format
string, the running page headers, the CCS classification, third-party
material, accessibility tagging, and unresolved cross-references
("??") — and we cross-check every title and author list against the data
from your conference system and against the copyright record at the publisher.
- Correct references, not just correct PDFs. We extract the reference list of
every paper and verify it against Crossref and DataCite: we report references
without a DOI, DOIs that do not resolve, and DOIs whose registered authors and
title do not match the cited work — a citation pointing at the wrong paper.
This makes your proceedings better indexed and better cited.
- Authors see what we see. Every author gets a link to the check report for
their own paper and to the extracted reference list, so problems can be fixed
directly instead of being guessed from a rejection message.
- Full transparency for the chairs. At any time during the process you can
look at the current version of the proceedings and at per-paper status pages,
instead of waiting for a delivery at the end.
- Your table of contents stays online. We host the table of contents of
your event permanently, with a page per paper that carries the abstract
and the links to the digital library, readable on phones as well.
We also feed the metadata to your conference web system and provide exports
in XML, JSON, and CSV.
- A public track record. The
tables of contents and programs of the events that we published
are online and stay online — please have a look at the proceedings that we
produced.
- Artifacts done properly. We publish artifacts with the paper: version-specific
DOIs in a long-term archive, the review badges from the artifact evaluation, and a
check that the paper actually cites its own artifact DOI.
- People from your field. Your contact is the person doing the work, and we know
LaTeX, BibTeX, and the conventions of the computer-science communities we serve
from the inside.
