Abstract: This paper describes the design and development of an electromagnetic system incorporated into a graphical display to provide haptic feedback forces on the tip of a stylus held near the display, according to the stylus position and virtual fixtures implemented in software. An array of magnetometer sensors is used to detect the position of the stylus tip, while a pair of box-shaped coils behind the display produce forces on the stylus in the plane of the display.
